the support we
have been getting so far is simply amazing. I just wanted to take the
time to say thanks to everyone for making everything possible. I’m
feeling really emotional right now listening to Erasure in the office
by myself at 1:00am. Together we’ll break these chains of love.
Ok enough of that and on with the news.
Mags
We have a new ad campaign and a new mag that we are advertising in. Incase
you guys didn’t notice, we have started advertising in Skateboarder
Magazine. October 2005 is a great issue of skateboarder, not because our
ad is in there but because there is mad Philly coverage in there. HOLLA!
I got to shout out my boys Jimmy Gorecki and Kevin Taylor on their article,
my boy Rich Adler on his banging 2 page spread, and my boy Fred Gall on
his I-Path ad on one the hardest things to skate in Philly. That might
be the best thing ever done at Afro. And of course I have to mention the
Philly cityscape article. Oh yeah, congratulations to my boy Adam Salo,
from Philly, who just landed a job over at Skateboarder as associate editor.
Since Skateboarder has mad love for Philly, this month’s Listen
trivia will come from photos in this month’s issue of Skateboarder.
The first person to answer correctly will win some goodies from us. Go
to our website for your chance to win. Ok, enough with Philly props. Yeah
right, I can’t stop, because I won’t stop. September 2005
Slap magazine has a little article about go skateboarding day in Philly
written by none other than Philadelphia’s own Adam Salo. There is
also a Danny Montoya Listen ad and Listen product review in the same issue.
September 2005 Thrasher also has that same Danny ad and some guy who looks
like the Listen team manager pouring beer on Dylan Rieder’s head
after winning this year’s Damn am in Minneapolis. We also have an
ad in The Skateboard Mag which comes with a free I-Path video which is
amazing, because Dan Wolfe, from Philly, put it together and Jack Sabback,
from Philly, has the best part in it.
Trips/Tours
We were in Europe for 5 weeks which stretched from the middle of July
to the middle of August. That tour consisted of Holland, France, Denmark,
Germany and Italy. One week in each country. I talked about Holland, France
and Denmark, so let me bring you guys up to speed on how the rest of the
trip went. Germany was amazing. I love Germany. It’s one of my favorite
counties in Europe. Not to take anything away from the other countries
in Europe, but I always have a good time there. Maybe it’s just
all the cool people that live there starting with our distributors 24/7.
Julius and Christian hooked us up straight from the train to the park
in Munster. We skated one of the best mini-ramps ever. Even our driver/tour
guide was one of the best. You rarely ever get a driver/tour guide to
travel with that skates so much. Thomas was down for everything and he
was just super cool and a good skater. We also got to chill with David
Luther. He’s been the hommie since my first time to Germany, so
it was cool to kick it with him for a few days in Hamburg. After Hamburg,
we were off to Berlin which let me tell you that place was all I thought
it would be and more. It’s crazy to think there was once a wall
dividing that country not too long ago. Well maybe it was before some
of you were born. Anyway, there are tons of good spots to skate in Berlin
and a lot of young local rippers. From Berlin, we went to Chemnitz for
the Splash Festival. For those who don’t know, it’s a 3 day
hip-hop/reggae fest outside by a big lake. Nas was supposed to play, but
his Bitch Ass cancelled. We did get to see Dilated Peoples, DJ Premier
and Smith and Wesson. For you reggae dudes, Gentleman closed down the
fest. I never heard a white German guy sound so Jamaican before. It was
kinda trippy. There was also a contest at the Splash Fest. It’s
like the Tampa Am of Germany and all the best dudes from Germany are there.
I even saw Klaus Ditter Span there. I know you guys remember him from
his wheels of fortune in an early issue of 411. Our distributor requested
the Listen Team to participate in the contest, so they did and everyone
skated well, but Danny took the cake, by making the cut and making it
to the finals the next day. Danny is now officially our contest skater.
Keep you’re your eyes open as he will be making appearances at the
next x-games and gravity games competitions. J From Splash we drive 5
hours to Frankfurt to catch a plane to Italy. Now I was the only out of
the crew who’s never been to Italy and everything I heard about
Italy was true and then some. Italian marble is now my favorite type of
marble to skate and there’s tons of it. The train station in Milan
is like a dream spot. The food is amazing. There’s nothing like
waking up to home cooked meal every morning and getting one every night.
Thanks to Max and crew for hooking us up so proper. We even got free mp3
players and anyone who knows me knows I needed to step it up from my big
yellow sports tape man. From Milan we drove 7 hours to Rome, which was
hot, literally. Damn, it was hot, so hot that we couldn’t skate
until a few hours before sunset. Ours days consisted of being tourists
and seeing stuff like the coliseum and Vatican City. It seems like Rome
is the most slept on city in Italy, since most people spend most of their
time in Milan, when actually Rome has more to offer skate wise. Maybe
the heat keeps people away. Hopefully we will get to make it back there
again some day soon.
September will be a very busy month for us. We will be at the ASR Trade
Show in San Diego. The day after the trade show we fly to Philly. I said
it, Philly. September 13th is the first of many demos that start in New
York and end in Miami on Oct. 1st. We will also be at the Surf Expo in
Orlando during our east coast tour. 15 demos in those few weeks, so we
will be busy as hell, check our website for a demo near you.

Contests
Well like I said before, Danny made it to the finals of the splash contest.
And we also went up to Vancouver for Slam City Jam. Rob Gonzalez was our
only rider to enter. After the contest, Rob and I stayed up in Vancouver
an extra day to skate the new plaza they just built there. Damn, talk
about a good ass park. It’s covered, so it never gets to hot under
there, cause it blocks the sun. Since it’s covered, that means it
also blocks the rain. I am predicting a trip to Vancouver sometime in
the near future.
Surf Expo mini-ramp contest. All the Listen guys will be in that one,
so check out the tranny skills of B Brown. Don’t sleep. Jamiel Nowpavar
will be going out to the Am Getting Paid contest in Montreal which will
be going on September 23-25.
Videos
I might be jumping gun on this one but it will be out soon enough, the
new 411, 13.3. This issue features a part with Rob Gonzalez and the rest
of the Listen crew. These new 411’s have been amazing so check out
the last 2 if you have missed them, and be sure to check out the new one
when it hits the shelves later on this month. The new Adio DVD is out
and we are giving those away with every Danny Montoya pro model. Danny
and Brian share an amazing part in this video. This is until supplies
run out, so act fast and get yours today
