Trips/Tours
Brian Brown will be heading to Australia for a few weeks on a Transworld trip that features some of today's "hot" ams. Look for the article and footage in the am issue of Transworld as well as in their next video. Danny Montoya is going to Miami for the grand opening of the M.I.A/Control Skatepark/shop. Chris Williams, Matt Cantor and Ed Selego are gonna break the park in with an Adio demo. From that Miami trip, Danny is going to meet up with Rob G, Chico Brenes, Emmanuel Guzman and 411 filmer, Anthony Claravall, for a trip to Chico's home country of Nicaragua. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Contests
Tampa Am was insane, 217 rippers from all over the world. Cody McEntire won and deserved that shit. He killed the double set in his run. As for the Listen guys, Donnie Mitchell got 47th place out of 106 skaters, while Jamiel Nowparvar got 105th out 107 skaters. However our other flow rider Gabriel De La Mora did not skate the contest because this was his first contest ever and was feeling a little overwhelmed. We did manage to try and street skate on Saturday afternoon but that happened to be the same day there was a parade going on. For those who have never been to Tampa, let me fill you in. Tampa must be AA/DUI capitol of the world because every time I have been there, I've seen an event that involves large crowds of public drinking in the streets. Saturday January 28th was the Gasparilla Parade. I had to do my research on this and this is the best story I found.
In the early days of the year 1801, a princess of Spain sailed to the great state of Mexico. While in that country she was royally entertained by its Ruler, and to show her appreciation to the Mexican people she prevailed upon the nobles to allow her to take eleven of Mexico's fairest daughters away with her to be educated in Spanish customs. A treasure of much gold, bound in chests of copper, it is said, was in cargo. When about forty miles from what is now Boca Grande, Gasparilla engaged them in combat, killed the crew, took the gold, and carried away as captives the princess and the eleven Mexican girls. The princess he kept for himself, the maids were divided among his men. The little Spanish princess spurned the one-time favorite of the King, and Gasparilla swore that if she did not return of her own free will the affections lavished upon her, she would be beheaded, and the story goes the threat of Gaspar was fulfilled. Far away from her native land, alone on a tropical isle, the little princess still lies in the lonely bed made for her by Gasparilla. The night birds sing in the dusk and lull her spirit to rest in the evening, and the moon throws kindly shadows over the spot where royalty sleeps. The point I'm trying to make is, they gave this guy not one but two parades in Tampa. Oh yeah, they have two because one parade is suppose to be for kids, a parade that's fun, with no drinking and no girls gone wild boobs, and the adult parade with all the aforementioned. Well this one in January is the kid’s parade, and I’ve never seen drunken jock dudes and weird shaped boobs in my life. Mind you that this parade is supposed to be contained to the water front area of town, but it got carried over into downtown and then straight into Yarbor City night life. You gotta love Tampa. I was told by the guys over at The Skatepark of Tampa that I haven't seen anything until I see the Adult parade in a few weeks.
