From the road

This month’s news letter will be done a little differently since we are on the road in Europe and have been for the past 3 weeks. Usually these news letters are written with the inspiration I get from looking at new skate mags and checking skateboard websites, but when you are traveling, you are on a different schedule, usually a hectic one that consists of

multiple shop signings in one day, demos, shooting photos, or spending 3 hours trying to film a line at a place that you might never get to skate again. And all of this usually occurs in one day, so you never get to check your own email as often as you would like, let alone icelounge. With that being said, enjoy this month’s news letter courtesy of the free internet station in the lobby of our hotel in Copenhagen. Oh yeah, since the internet is free here, everyone is on it all the time and there is only one computer to use, so you can probably guess that I am doing this at 4am, the only time everyone is sleeping.

Mags

New ad campaign. Our first look at the new ad campaign came when we arrived in the office of our Denmark distributor, Slide Distribution, in Copenhagen after a 17 hour over night train ride from Paris. Seeing the ad in the new Kingpin, woke us up out of a coma and was a nice start to a great week in Denmark. Danny Montoya has the first ad of this campaign which can be seen in Kingpin internationally and in Thrasher, Slap, and The Skateboard Mag Domestically. The new Thrasher also has a photo of team manager Vern Laird pouring beer on Dylan Reider's head during the awards ceremony of the damn am contest at the 3rd lair park in Minneapolis. You can see Rob G’s new LRG ad in the new Transworld. The Mexico trip featuring Danny and Rob should be out soon in the next Skateboarder mag according to the email I just received from editor Brian Peech. The Skateboard Mag has a new Brain Brown Adio ad and a split ad with Eastern Skate Supply which features Danny Montoya. I would also like to take the time to correct the mistake made by The Skateboard Mag. The origins of the nollie article is a photo of Rodrigo Petersen, not Rodrigo Lima.

Trips/Tours

We currently are in Copenhagen, Denmark. We started off our Europe trip in Holland where we met up with Miesj over at Left Distribution. Miesj was super busy planning stuff for the big contest that was to be held that weekend in Rotterdam, so we just hit the streets on our own. We spent our time street skating some amazing spots and met some cool skaters. Check out our website for the euro look alike contest. From there, we took a train to France to meet up with Franz and the rest of the crew at Class X distribution. We started of in Lille, which is a small city in the north of France. From there we went to Paris and Soy Panday was our tour guide for the week of skating there. After Paris, we went to Rouen for the Carhartt King of wood contest. It rained a lot in Rouen, so we headed back for some unfinished business in Paris. This time JJ Rouseau joined us and on our way to the skate spot, The Skateboard Mag's Ian O' Conno,r went down on a huge crack and cut his chin up to the point were he had to get stitches. With Ian in the hospital and Vern filming Brian, Rob G was left to shoot a sequence of Danny. Vern set the shutter speed and apature for Rob and then let him do his thing. Everyone will have to wait and see how Rob's flicks turned out. Atiba look out, Rob's coming up! From that session we had to hustle to catch our 17 hour train ride to Copenhagen. Ian was still in the hospital getting stitches so he had to catch up with us the following day. Which brings us to where we are now? There is an awesome ledge spot right by our hotel and you can skate there all day, well at least until it gets dark because there are no lights. We also got to leave Copenhagen for a few days and went to a city called Aarhus which is the second largest city in Denmark. We stayed at a place known as the country club which has a nice 6 foot mini in a barn. Now we are back in Copenhagen with one more day of street skating before we head to Münster, Germany for a shop signing and then a demo straight off of an 8 hour train ride. See that crazy symbol over the u? I love European keyboards. There are all kinds of crazy letters and symbols. It took me forever to figure out how to make that thing appear over the u, but now I got it down. I also wish there was a word I can use that has this letter in it ø. Anyways, we have had an a amazing time and we would like to thank all our international distributors and tour guides for making this possible for us. Next month's letter will have the Germany and Italy parts of Europe.

Contests

Donnie Mitchell just missed winning the last west coast es game of Skate before the big one at the ASR trade show in San Diego. Donnie got 2nd place, and if we would have won, we would have won an invite to play in the big at the trade show. Check the active mail-order website for more news on this story. www.activemailorder.com WSR05 in Rotterdam was all it could be and more. There was a great turn out of pro skaters from the states and Europe, as well as a great crowd turn out for the large skate scene over in Holland. Miesj and the crew put in a lot hours to make sure their event went over well and everything was great. Night life included free shows from Ray Barbee and band, Frank Hirata and band, Helter Skelter and Rahzel from The Roots. There was also a street photo contest the week before the skate park contest. Crews of skaters went out with a photographer and took to the streets of Rotterdam to win 10,000 euros, which is more than $10,000 for those who don't know, for the best photo. The photos were then displayed at the park, and everyone got to vote on their favorite. Well we didn't win the photo contest or the park contest, but it was a great week. Rodrigo was the only one from our camp to enter the contest in Rouen, France and in classic Rodrigo fashion; he rolled his ankle right before his run. This has been happening to him at every contest for the past 2 years. Maybe we'll just have to keep him away from contests.

Videos

The new 411 has hit the shelves. Danny Montoya is featured in the Italian Job article. He also has footage in the chaos section along with Rob, Rodrigo, and Brian. The new Adio DVD is out and we are giving those away with every Danny Montoya pro model. Danny and Brain share an amazing part in this video. This is until supplies run out, so act fast and get yours today.
